DAD LIFE: Perspectives, Observations & Questions from "Dad"
The day is approaching quickly: a day that quickly overtook Valentine's Day as my 4th favorite holiday of the year!
NOTE: Maybe we keep that between us, and my wife doesn't have to know...
Father's Day is only 2 weeks away! I know a guy who has now made that day synonymous with duct-tape for me...(it has to do with Ohio) and that's not far from the vibe I'm hoping to mold Father's Day into in my house.
I want Rad to buy me tools - I don't need them, it just seems like the right essence for the holiday. An articulating drill this year, digital multi-meter next year. Eventually, we can work grills into the equation and by the time he's 10, he'll know to just give me things that will look good on my Instagram (as a man).
I don't care if I need it - I know my dad didn't need Ace Ventura: Pet Detective when I gave it to him one year...but that doesn't mean I should have given him a new toothbrush or underwear with the band still attached. That's not fun. That's not braggable. Buy me something that can be opened with the theme to Home Improvement playing in the background.
Happy father's Day a little early! here's your gift opening soundtrack

My kid's birthday! I bet your kid has one this year, too.. You should look it up, I had to reschedule a dentist appointment.
There are two bios in my life now...the one that has been used to describe "Ty" was very career-oriented, with an acknowledgement of my inability to sit still.
Now, there is one used to describe "Dad" - its still me, but a new version of who I am...and I'm still figuring it out, too. Suddenly I'm responsible for another person's development, and he is symbiotically (along with my wife) helping me to develop into a different - hopefully more-complete - person. Hi, My Name is Dad!

Video Games Day isn't an irresponsible holiday, its a GREAT reason to bond with your kid (and stay current)!
I documented the entire trip on my iPhone and edited in hotel rooms after Radley had zonked out for the night. There are 9 pieces - originally meant to be home videos - being posted on the VIDEOS page: CLICK HERE to see what a 2-year-old's roadtrip is like!
My wife, Corri, is the one who got this whole thing started! When Radley was born, she realized how many questions came up in her life as a mom...and were ALSO brought up by the moms we were meeting. Clearly, many parents LOVE to just see what other parents are doing. There is no knowing if its 'right' or 'wrong,' but its nice to have a reference point.
For a long time - since I'm constantly sharing on-air with my radio shows or on-camera stuff - I held this piece of my life as a personal experience...but my kid is getting too fun and the list of fascinating moments is getting so long, that I have to start sharing it, too!
As I build up some content, you are invited to visit Corri's site! She has SO many great tips and moments! Great pieces of info for traveling with a newborn, vignette's of what Radley was up to at certain ages, and some new additions to our routine (like mini golf)!

RAD & DAD DAY:
Voting with my 2-year-old
Thinking this might be a time to act like a dad and lead by example, I took Radley along to the polling station - easy sell, cuz it was at the Fire Station!
On the way home, I he was curious about how we earned our "I Voted" stickers. I attempted to explain the concepts of voting and democracy to a 2-year-old
